Mary Lou Ward-Stephan, of Parkersburg, passed away July 25, 2010, at St. Joseph's Hospital at exactly 87 years of age.
She was born in Ritchie County, W.Va., on July 25, 1923, a daughter of the late Wilbur C. and Metta C. Wilson Matheny.
She was a retired office manager for Camp Hearing Aid Center and had worked in the cosmetology profession as a manicurist for many years. During World War II she worked at Timkin Factory in Canton, Ohio. She was a 1941 graduate of Harrisville High School. She was a longtime member of Good Shepherd Episcopal Church. Also, a 66 year member of Harrisville Chapter 29 Order of the Eastern Star, and Hope Rebekah Lodge 30 of Harrisville, a former member of G.F.W.C. of Parkersburg, and Elks Lodge #198 of Parkersburg.
She is survived by her loving family and only child, Donna Gayle Ward-Jack and her only grandchild, Charissa Elizabeth Jack, both of Parkersburg, other family members include several sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, cousins, nieces and nephews as well as many special friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, William Glen Ward and Robert James Stephan; and two brothers, Kester Duane Matheny and Donald Gail Matheny.
Services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Episcopal Church, 903 Charles St., Parkersburg with Father John Seville as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Visitation today 5-8 p.m. at Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg and 10:30-11:20 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
